Offering Shockwave to Pittsboro and Brownsburg since 2018

Pittsboro Chiropractic Center has offered shockwave treatment to Brownsburg, Pittsboro, Lizton, and the entire West Indy areas since 2018. Shockwave is highly utilized in Europe, Australia, and Asia. It has become more common in the U.S. since about 2021. It is one of the best modalities we have found to break up muscle adhesions and to decrease chronic muscle spasm.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy utilizes pressure waves or "shock waves" to provide relief for various musculoskeletal conditions. It offers restorative treatment, and not just pain relief. It is an acoustic wave that carries high energy to injured areas of the body. The impulse speed breaks the sound barrier forming a shockwave. The therapy accelerates healing by stimulating the bodies natural healing responses. The shockwave also breaks up pain producing calcification in soft tissue.

Shockwave is used to treat the following conditions:

Plantar Fasciitis
Heel Spurs

Muscle Trigger Points
Muscle Strain

Tennis Elbow
Calcific Tendinopathies

Frozen Shoulder

What to Expect From Shockwave Therapy

You may may experience a slight discomfort during the treatment. The intensity of the therapy can be adjusted for your comfort level, and most patients don't experience any significant discomfort. Shockwave therapy is cumulative, so each session builds on the previous treatment. For best results, it is imperative to follow through with a care plan. A typical care plan for shockwave therapy is 2 sessions per week for 3 weeks, or 1session per week for 6 weeks.

Medical Effects of Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy interacts with the soft tissues causing accelerated tissue repair via cellular growth, analgesia (pain relief), and restoration of mobility.

Breaking Up Calcium Deposits:

When a muscle, tendon, or ligament tears or is traumatized, calcium buildup can begin to occur in these soft tissues. Shockwave therapy can be used break up these calcifications which can then be removed by the lymphatic system.

New Blood Vessel Formation:

The acoustic shockwaves create micro-ruptures in the tendons and bone. As a result, new blood vessel growth is stimulated. The new blood vessels improve blood supply and oxygenation of the area being treated, creating faster healing of the tendon and bone.

Release Of Trigger Points (Fibromyalgia):

Trigger points can be a major source of pain in the neck, back, shoulders, and buttocks. Shockwave therapy is used to break up the bi-products of muscle use that form trigger points as well as to open the calcium pumps within the muscle. This reverses the metabolic crisis occurring in the muscle fibers and releases the trigger points.

Pain Reduction:

Shockwave therapy rapidly reduces pain by lowering the concentration of "Substance P" in the body. Substance P is a neurotransmitter that is associated with intense and long lasting pain from chronic conditions. Reducing the presence of Substance P and histamines with shockwave therapy can also help reduce swelling.

Shockwave Therapy was featured on The Doctors for treating plantar fasciitis.
